MaryLou Andrews

Art

(B.S.—Bob Jones University; M. Ed—Clemson University; Ed. S. Art Education—Georgia State University); voted Teacher of the Year in Texas and again in Georgia; selected Elementary Teacher of the Year on the district level in Texas; Fulton County Mentor for district art teachers; National Board Certified Teacher from 2001 through 2021; retired art teacher with 44 years of experience. From her early years, MaryLou had a love for art and people. Combining these two gifts from God led her to major in art education during her college years. However, she detoured from art and taught elementary education until 1993, when her principal asked her to fill a newly opened art position. Within a year and with her husband’s encouragement, MaryLou also began to create her own art seriously. Her paintings have been accepted in local, state, national, and international exhibitions and have accrued awards. Currently, MaryLou is actively painting, mentoring peers, and developing connections with the community. She is the past president of the Chesapeake Bay Watercolorists, an active member of the Southside Artists Association in Chesapeake, and was the chair for the Virginia Watercolor Society annual exhibition and workshop held at the Portsmouth Art& Cultural Center in 2021. Her goal is to bring glory to the One who gifted her and encourage others to walk in His ways. The years of teaching have been rewarding for her. She often told her students that she had the best career because she got to teach two things that matter most to her: people and art. MaryLou and her husband retired to Virginia in 2017 to be near her family, including grandchildren currently studying at KEYS. She deeply appreciates the impact of KEYS on their lives and is excited to be an integral part of this program by teaching Art at KEYS.
