This is a group ensemble course for students who have been playing for a minimum of 2-3 years and can
demonstrate mastery of the basic skills of percussion and music reading. This group will perform
independently as well as with other ensembles as needed. Please contact the instructor if you have questions
about whether you qualify. Students will learn advanced percussion techniques on various percussion
instruments. Students do not need to own their own instruments but will be expected to have their own
drum sticks and a practice pad. Instruments provided: concert snare drums, bass drum, cymbals,
vibraphone, marimbas, glockenspiels, marching drum line drums, timpani, and other auxiliary
percussion. Students in this ensemble must participate in the MOST trip and will also perform in KEYS
Winter and Spring Concerts. Students are expected to participate in several parades and outreaches
throughout the year. August Drumline Camp: The regular class schedule begins in September with the rest of KEYS; however, Advanced Percussion
instruction begins in August and payment of tuition for August is required.
August 6: Drumline Practice 10 am-12 pm (attendance optional)
August 13: Drumline Instrument Tryouts for those wishing to play a specific drum 10 am-1 pm
(attendance optional)
August 20: Leadership Workshop 9 am-12 pm (required for Drumline Captains)
August 26-30: Drumline Camp 8 am-2 pm each day (required for the entire class to prepare for parades
during the academic year)
The following supplies are to be purchased by parents.
Supplies:
Vekkia music stand (with or without holes)
Drum practice pad
Drum sticks
Black 1-inch 3-ring binder
Recommendation by Mr. Cook or by audition
Parents are responsible for purchasing all textbooks and supplies before the first day of class.
KEYS will invoice supply fees at the time of registration and class selection. This fee covers materials, lab supplies, and other expenses incurred by the teacher. It is a one-time fee, transferable until August, but non-refundable.
Please note the grade level for this class. Students younger than the recommended grade levels need special permission before signing up for the class. Please contact the office for more information.
