ASL I A Description

This high school course is an introduction to the study of the language of the Deaf (American Sign Language). ASL is a complete visual, gestural language capable of expressing every idea and emotion. The course emphasizes the use of space, facial expressions, and a wide sign vocabulary. In addition, Level 1 begins the study of ASL grammar and Deaf Culture, as well as an introduction to outreach ministries to the Deaf. Strategies include the study of ASL grammatical structures and syntax, teaming games, vocabulary builders, video exercises, Deaf guest speakers, performances in the KEYS Winter and Spring Concerts, and outreach activities.

Class Information

Parents are responsible for purchasing all textbooks and supplies before the first day of class.

Supply fees are due to each teacher on the first day of class. This fee covers materials, lab supplies, and other expenses incurred by the teacher. They are a one-time fee.

Please note the grade level for this class. Students younger than the recommended grade levels need special permission before signing up for the class. Please contact the office for more information.
