Chemistry B Description

This general chemistry course covers the major topics of an introductory chemistry course, including atomic and molecular structure, molecular geometry, gas laws, reactions and equations, acid/base chemistry, solubility, and stoichiometry. Highlights of the history of chemistry will be discussed, including the Christians influential in its progress. Throughout the course, students will see the application of Colossians 1:16-17: “For by Him all things were created… and in Him all things hold together.” Hands-on labs, demonstrations, and virtual labs are included regularly to enhance learning.

Textbooks and Supplies

Mrs. Silva will be using a specific curriculum designed for KEYS covering all the basics of Chemistry. Students will have all of their lessons, notes, homework, and labs inside a workbook, and the supply fee will cover the cost. If an additional resource is needed, "Discovering Design with Chemistry" by Dr. Jay L. Wile can be purchased, but it is NOT required.

Supplies:
3-ring binder (at least 1")
Scientific calculator

Prerequisites

Algebra II is required as a prerequisite or corequisite. Having a number of previous science courses is helpful as chemistry is foundational to all the sciences. That background provides opportunities for the application of atomic and molecular understanding.

Class Information

Parents are responsible for purchasing all textbooks and supplies before the first day of class.

Supply fees are due to each teacher on the first day of class. This fee covers materials, lab supplies, and other expenses incurred by the teacher. They are a one-time fee.

Please note the grade level for this class. Students younger than the recommended grade levels need special permission before signing up for the class. Please contact the office for more information.
