Beginning Strings Description

This class is for students that want to learn how to play violin, viola, cello, or bass and have had no prior lessons. Students will learn how to hold their instruments properly, read music, and perform simple pieces by the end of the year. The recommended grade for starting in this heterogeneous setting is at least 4th grade and up. Students will perform in the KEYS Winter and Spring Concerts.

Textbooks and Supplies

Textbook:
Essential Elements Book 1 for the instrument specific to the student
Under Class Details, see the Class Attachment for a picture of the textbook.

Supplies:
Folding music stand to bring to KEYS
1/2" black 3-ring binder with dividers and pockets
Pencil
Metronome/tuner for practice at home
(Violins and violas are required to use a shoulder rest)

Class Information

Parents are responsible for purchasing all textbooks and supplies before the first day of class.

Supply fees are due to each teacher on the first day of class. This fee covers materials, lab supplies, and other expenses incurred by the teacher. They are a one-time fee.

Please note the grade level for this class. Students younger than the recommended grade levels need special permission before signing up for the class. Please contact the office for more information.
