Digital Illustration Description

Digital Illustration is an upper-level course that teaches the fundamentals of graphic storytelling, character design, dynamic figure drawing, and special effects techniques used by cartoon animators, comic book artists, and renaissance masters. Students will learn how to use illustration software to compose original, exciting artworks for the web and print. By the end of the course, students will be able to draw and paint people, animals, and scenery from imagination with greater confidence, tell a story through the visual medium and develop original characters. This course is a great first step for those who desire to break into comics and animation, attend a top-tier art college, or simply obtain a more advanced skill set for their own creations and artistic visions.

Textbooks and Supplies

Instructional material will be provided for each lesson by handout or electronically. Supplies: A laptop or tablet capable of running Sketchbook Pro, $20 and Clip Studio Paint, $50. (Sketchbook is free for tablets and Clip Studio Paint has a 3 month trial period also for tablets) Laptops will need pressure sensitive stylus pen capability to draw on screen or an external stylus tablet such as a Wacom to use the programs. (I personally prefer the external tablet for it’s stability.) Tablets will need to have at least a 10 inch screen and can use a pressure sensitive stylus with the programs. iPads and Samsung Galaxy S6 or S7 are recommended. There are many options for all budget levels. Please do not hesitate to ask to contact the teacher with questions.

Prerequisites
