Technical Theater Description

Have you ever wondered what it is like to be involved in the technical side of a theatrical production? Are you wondering what, exactly, IS the technical side of theater? What, exactly, do they do backstage? Theater wouldn’t happen without the many people who work in the background. In this class, you will get a taste of the non-performing side of theater. Costumes & makeup, props, scenery, set design & building, stage management, backstage crew, lighting, sound, etc. We will work together to create an upcycled costume, build props, masks, and set pieces. All students will be involved in the technical aspects of the KEYS drama spring production and will be expected to participate during the production and some rehearsals. Attendance at rehearsals will depend on the technical position the student holds. Starting in January, rehearsals take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.
