Beginning Band Description

Beginning Band is for the student that would like to learn flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, or trombone. Students will learn how to assemble their instruments, proper breathing technique, proper posture and playing position, how to read music, and how to perform as an ensemble. This ensemble performs for KEYS Winter and Spring Samplers as well as events outside of KEYS in the spring. Students should be in at least 5th grade.

Textbooks and Supplies

Mr. Grizzel provides the textbook (Standard of Excellence Book 1) and binder

The student provides a folding music stand to bring to KEYS, a metronome/tuner for at-home practice, and an instrument. An instrument-specific supply list will be given when the instrument is chosen.

Prerequisites

None. However, it is recommended that parents contact Mr. Grizzel through the KEYS office to set up an appointment for an Instrument Interview before classes begin. Students will be able to interview each instrument and decide which one they would like to work with.
