High School English I B Description

This class is the foundation for all other high school English classes. It is a complete high school class that includes grammar, writing, and literature. The focus of the class is writing and grammar so that students will flourish in their future classes. This class will cover a variety of writing assignments. Building from a basic essay model, students will construct narrative, persuasive, and personal essays. Students will also write creative essays and will write in response to literature. While working on a research paper, students will learn MLA format, including in-text citation of sources and Works Cited page. With a high school pace, students should expect to write 2-3 paragraphs a week. Grammar will be an integral part of each week's lesson. Lessons learned in grammar will be required in students' personal writings. Students should be reading quality literature. A reading log will be required from all students, and there is a recommended (but not required) list of books available.
